Math Masters
-
Each year hundreds of 5th and 6th graders in Minnesota participate in the Math Masters competition. The purpose of the competition is to help students learn new math concepts, develop a variety of strategies to solve problems, and to work effectively in a group.
In 5th grade the high potential coordinator meets once a week with a group to prepare for the competition. Time is spent on fact drills and skills to prepare the students for both the individual and group problem solving competitions.
In 6th grade adult volunteers facilitate practice prior to the competition and provide resources for students to practice on their own or in small groups.
