Adult Basic Education (ABE), a program of Alexandria Community Education, offers day, evening, and online learning classes. Classes are taught by instructors trained to teach adults, working at your pace and towards your goals. All ABE classes are taught free of charge to the learners. You must be at least 17 years old, not enrolled in K-12 school, and need instruction in basic academic skills: reading, writing, speaking, and /or mathematics in order to be eligible for ABE services.

We offer flexible studies, in the classroom, all distance learning, or a combination of the two. All learning materials are provided at no cost to the student.Diploma Options: Minnesota adults have three options to complete their high school secondary credential: local diploma, Minnesota State diploma or the GED. You must be at least 17 years old, not enrolled in K-12 school, and need instruction in GED/Adult Diploma, English as a Second Language (ESL), or Basic Academic Skills: reading, writing, speaking, and /or mathematics below a 12th-grade level to be eligible for ABE services.Basic Skills Brush Up: Academic brush-up in reading, writing, and math below a 12th-grade level for adults looking to enter college, join the workforce, advance in their career, or improve their life skills.Regional Online Career Classes (ROCC): Career courses that you can take from the comfort of your home this Spring. College Readiness & Accuplacer Prep: In partnership with the Alexandria Technical & Community College. College math prep is offered to all learners who need to refresh skills in basic math and pre-algebra. A free online learning program for Accuplacer preparation is also offered. Future nursing students can study for their Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test here as well.
North Star Digital Literacy: A free, online course in basic computer knowledge and skills offers a strong foundation for new computer learners.
Tutoring for Adults: One-to-one tutoring is available for adults working on basic reading, writing, and math skills. Contact the office at 320-762-3312 for more information on becoming a literacy tutor.
