Welcome, Discovery Middle School Families!

At Discovery Middle School, we strive to be responsive to the academic and social-emotional learning needs of our students. We recognize adolescence is a time when our students are experiencing rapid growth and change.  Each day, we are driven to support our developing students, providing a caring environment where students can gain confidence in themselves, be inquisitive thinkers, and grow as leaders and innovators.

We value and show care for one another as a learning community, modeling positive attributes within the Cardinal Way and Code of Conduct.  Aligning to Alexandria Public Schools’ Portrait of a Graduate vision, teachers design engaging lessons beyond content mastery, providing relevant learning for students to think critically and creatively; actively communicate; collaborate; and become civically and globally engaged. Discovery Middle School seeks community partnership, providing civic engagement and real-world learning opportunities, empowering students to discover their interests and passions. 

Beyond the school day, extracurricular programming offers student experiences in fine arts, athletic, academic and/ or club-based activities.  We hope each student takes advantage of the wide variety of activities available.  Student involvement presents an opportunity to foster positive, lasting connections with peers.
